Free Opt-in, Purchase, or Subscription: Which Offer Type Should You Use?

Selling & Payments

Use Free opt-in to collect sign-ups without payment, Subscription to bill monthly or annually, and Purchase for a one-time payment or a payment plan. You choose this on the offer's Product tab under Access type.

Use Free opt-in when you want people to sign up without paying, and Paid when you want to charge. Paid offers are then sold one of two ways: Subscription for recurring monthly or annual billing, or Purchase for a one-time payment or a payment plan. You set this on the offer's Product tab, under Access type.

Every offer has its own page and link, so you can run more than one in the same hub. A free lead magnet and a paid program can live side by side, each with its own settings.

Free opt-in

A free offer collects sign-ups and lets users in without a payment. Visitors who select the page's button fill in a short sign-up form instead of going to checkout. Under Collect on signup, Email and First & last name are always included, and you can add Phone number and Address.

Pick free when you're building a list, running a trial-style community, or giving away a starter journey. You don't need Stripe connected to create or save a free offer.

Paid: Subscription

A subscription bills users on a recurring schedule. You can turn on Monthly, Annual, or both, and buyers choose between the plans you enable at checkout. Pick a subscription when your hub is ongoing, like a membership or coaching program that keeps adding value.

Paid: Purchase

A purchase has a fixed total rather than ongoing subscription billing. You can turn on One-time payment, Payment plan, or both. A payment plan splits the price into a set number of payments (at least two) on a schedule you choose, such as 3 payments of $199 every month. Pick a purchase when you're selling a program with a set price, and add a payment plan if you want to make it easier to say yes.

An offer is either a subscription or a purchase, not both. If you want to sell the same content both ways, create two offers.

Before you sell

Paid offers need Stripe. Only the account owner can connect it under Account → Payments. Connect before you save a paid offer. See Connect Stripe and Start Selling.

Paid offer pages can use sections free pages can't, like Offer, Guarantee, Deadline, and FAQ. The Included journeys controls also appear only on paid offers. Free offers can still apply tags that you use in visibility rules.

What happens after someone joins

Free and paid offers can both apply tags when someone opts in or buys, and both let you choose where users land next and what access email they get. Hub access itself is covered in Manage AI Hub Access.

For prices and plan details, see Set Your Offer's Pricing. If you change your mind later, you can switch an offer between free and paid.

Frequently asked questions

Can one offer have both a subscription and a one-time price?
No. A paid offer is either a subscription or a purchase. Create a second offer if you want to sell the same thing both ways.
Do I need Stripe for a free offer?
No. Free offers work without Stripe. You only need Stripe connected before saving a paid offer.
Can I copy an existing offer to start a new one?
Select Duplicate from the offer's actions menu on the Offers page. The copy has its own link and its page starts unpublished; paid copies need Stripe connected. Check its tags, journey access, and prices before publishing.
