What Is a Milestone?

A milestone is a meaningful stage inside a journey. It contains the steps users work through, and it's complete when all its steps are done.

How milestones help users

Milestones divide a larger outcome into manageable stages. Users open a journey, choose a milestone, and work through its steps. Progress updates as they complete the work.

For example, an email-campaign journey could have a Strategy milestone followed by a Writing milestone. Those are phases of one outcome, not separate journeys.

What you can customize

Open the milestone's Settings:

• General: its name and Published status.
• Customize: its icon, color, and background.
• Content → Welcome & Explanation: its description, explainer text, image or video, and media layout.
• Content → Completion: the completion popup's title, message, icon, color, and celebration.
• Visibility: conditions controlling when it appears to users.
• Versions: whether users can create separate versions for repeatable work.

Background inheritance

A milestone inherits background fields from its journey or hub unless you override them in Settings → Customize. Steps use the milestone's background; they don't have separate background settings.

Repeatable work

Enable milestone versions when users may need to repeat the same process for a different project or situation. Each version keeps that work separate.

Custom labels

Milestones is the default label. Change it under Hub Settings → Customize → Custom Label for Milestones to something that fits your program, such as Phases or Sections.
