How Do Tokens and Extra Token Blocks Work?

Your OBIE plan includes tokens for AI use during your billing period. Extra usage can be covered by discounted Token Blocks, which carry over when unused, or billed at your plan's standard overage rate.

Your OBIE plan includes tokens for AI use during your billing period. If you need more, you can buy a discounted Token Block or pay your plan's standard overage rate. Unused purchased tokens carry over to later billing periods.

What are tokens?

Tokens are the units used to measure what AI processes and generates. Think of them as small pieces of information, rather than a count of questions or users.

When AI creates a response, usage includes both the information it reads and the answer it produces. That means a longer request, more context, or a longer answer can use more tokens than a short exchange. Voice-to-text can also use tokens.

Your allowance is shared across the AI usage in your creator account. It isn't a separate allowance for each user.

How many tokens does my plan include?

If you pay monthly, your allowance covers one monthly billing period:

Start: 2 million tokens.
Grow: 10 million tokens.
Founder: 10 million tokens.
Scale: 30 million tokens.

If you pay yearly, you get a pool for the entire annual billing period:

Start: 28.8 million tokens.
Grow: 144 million tokens.
Founder: 144 million tokens.
Scale: 432 million tokens.

The yearly pool includes 20% more tokens than 12 monthly allowances. You can use that pool throughout the year; it doesn't reset each month.

For example, a yearly Grow account has 144 million tokens for its annual billing period. You don't have to divide them evenly between months.

What happens if I use more than my allowance?

Usage beyond your included allowance is called overage. Any available purchased token-block credit can cover that extra usage. Extra usage not covered by purchased credit is billed at your plan's standard rate:

Start: $10 per million tokens.
Grow and Founder: $8 per million tokens.
Scale: $6 per million tokens.

These rates apply to the tokens you actually use. You don't need to use a whole million before overage is charged.

For example, if a monthly Founder account uses 11 million tokens and has no purchased credit, the first 10 million are included. The extra 1 million costs $8.

Overage charges can be collected before your renewal date once unbilled overage reaches $50. Check Billing & Subscription for your invoices.

Save on extra usage with Token Blocks

Token Blocks are one-time purchases that cost less than standard overage. The same block price gives you different amounts of tokens depending on your plan.

Start

$9: 1 million tokens.
$21.25: 2.5 million tokens.
$48: 6 million tokens.

Grow and Founder

$9: 1.25 million tokens.
$21.25: approximately 3.12 million tokens.
$48: 7.5 million tokens.

Scale

$9: approximately 1.66 million tokens.
$21.25: approximately 4.16 million tokens.
$48: 10 million tokens.

The three block sizes save you 10%, 15%, or 20%, respectively, compared with buying the same amount through standard overage.

For example, a Founder creator can buy 7.5 million additional tokens for $48. That amount would cost $60 at the standard overage rate.

You don't have to use a purchased block before your current billing period ends. Unused purchased tokens carry over to later billing periods. Buying a block doesn't change your subscription plan.

Check your usage and buy a block

1. Open your account menu and select Account Settings.

2. Select Usage in the account sidebar.

3. Review your included usage, purchased blocks, overage, and billing-period dates.

4. To buy extra tokens, find Token Blocks, choose a block, and select Buy block.

5. Complete checkout, then return to Usage to check your purchased block.

The Usage page is available to the creator who owns the account, not other team members. You'll need an active or trialing subscription to buy a block.

OBIE shows usage notices and sends email alerts at 75%, 90%, and 100% of your included allowance. It can also estimate whether you're on track to run out before the billing period ends. These notices help you plan; they aren't a spending cap.
