What Are Conversations?
Conversations are open-ended AI chats inside your hub, built from templates you define. Unlike steps — which have a finish line — a conversation is always available for members to return to whenever they want to think something through with the AI.
Conversations give your members a place to have open-ended, one-on-one exchanges with an AI that knows your material. They're not part of a journey's step-by-step flow — they stand alongside journeys as a separate way for members to engage with your hub.
How conversations differ from steps
A step lives inside a milestone and has a defined finish line — the member answers its questions and completes it. A conversation is open-ended. Members can start one, leave, and come back anytime. There's no completion state — it's an ongoing resource.
Conversation templates
You don't create individual conversations for each member. Instead, you create conversation templates that define how a conversation behaves — its purpose, the AI's approach, and what it draws on. When a member starts a conversation from a template, they get their own private session.
Templates are created through a guided wizard that walks you through the setup step by step. You can save your progress and come back to finish later. A template must be fully configured before it can be published — incomplete templates can't go live.
Conversation settings
Conversation templates have their own settings, accessible from your hub's Conversations section:
- Content — the template's name, description, and configuration.
- Background — custom background colors, gradients, or images for the conversation view.
- Visibility Rules — conditions that control when this conversation appears to a member. Works identically to visibility rules on journeys, milestones, and steps.
Where members find conversations
Members see available conversations alongside their journeys in the hub. They can open a conversation anytime, send messages, and the AI responds based on your template's configuration and the documents uploaded to your hub.
Customizable labels
"Conversations" is just the default label. In your hub settings, you can rename them to Chats, Sessions, Discussions, or anything that fits your program.
Frequently asked questions
- Can members see each other's conversations?
- No. Each member gets their own private conversation session from a template. Conversations are one-on-one between the member and the AI.
- Can I delete a conversation template?
- You can delete a template only if it's not currently in use. If members have active sessions from a template, you'll need to handle those first.
- How many conversation templates can I create?
- There's no hard limit. Create as many as your program needs — each template serves a different purpose or topic area.
- Can I control when a conversation becomes available?
- Yes. Use visibility rules on the conversation template to show or hide it based on dates, completed steps, user tags, or other conditions. It works the same way as visibility rules on journeys, milestones, and steps.
