Edit a step's name, prompt, questions, and visibility rules from the step editor. You can also use Enhance My Prompt to refine your prompt with AI assistance, optionally referencing your uploaded documents.

Steps are where the actual content and interaction happens. The step editor lets you control what members see, what the AI does, and what questions are asked.

Open the step editor

Navigate to the step from inside its milestone. The step editor shows all the fields you can configure.

Name and prompt

Name — what the member sees in the step list inside the milestone.
Prompt — instructions to the AI that shape how it guides the member through this step. Describe what the step should accomplish, how the AI should approach it, and any boundaries. This is the most important field — it determines the quality of the AI's guidance.

Enhance My Prompt

Select Enhance My Prompt to have AI help you refine your prompt. You can optionally select up to 5 uploaded documents as context — the AI uses them to draft a better, more specific prompt. The documents aren't saved to the step; they're used once for the enhancement.

Questions

Add one or more questions to your step. Each question appears for the member to answer. Question types include open-ended text and multiple choice. The AI responds to the member's answers based on your prompt and the documents uploaded to your hub.

Visibility Rules

Control when this step appears to members. Visibility rules on steps work identically to rules on journeys, milestones, and conversations — see How Visibility Rules Work.

Step types

Most steps are AI-guided — the AI generates personalized responses. You can also create Fixed Guidance steps where you write the response yourself. Members see your exact text but can copy it or use AI to enhance it.

Preview

Use the Preview button to see the step as a member would experience it — including the questions, the layout, and how the AI responds.
